Safety questions

Meet in public, keep deals on mr.bid, and report listings or sellers.

Questions

How do I stay safe? Meet in public, inspect the item before you pay, and keep the deal on mr.bid messages. Never share passwords, OTPs or PINs. Staff will never ask for them.

How should I approach a larger purchase? A higher price does not currently add a seller-facing mr.bid gate, payment protection, or new document check. Inspect the exact item and any relevant ownership, service, or serial information before you agree. Keep the price, payment method, handover plan, and promises in the mr.bid deal. mr.bid does not hold or reverse cash, bank, or Mobile Money payments, so pause and report the listing if someone pressures you to pay, send a deposit, or share an OTP, PIN, password, or remote access.

What can I list? Items you have the right to sell, described honestly. No illegal goods, stolen property, counterfeits, weapons, or scams. Community guidelines has the full list.

What if something goes wrong? Open the deal conversation and use Open dispute or Cancel deal. A return is separate — request one from the deal after you received the item. The Dispute resolution page explains disputes and links to My transactions. Keep talking on mr.bid messages. mr.bid does not hold funds, so it cannot reverse a mobile-money or cash payment.

How do returns work? After you have received the item, the buyer can request a return from the deal within 14 days. The seller can approve or decline. If approved, you mark the item returned, inspect it, approve a refund record, then mark Refunded. That last step means you arranged the refund off-platform — mr.bid does not collect, hold, or send the item payment. A return is not a dispute. Opening a return does not put the deal in dispute. My returns is /returns.

How do I block someone? Use Block on a listing, conversation, or seller page. Blocked people cannot message you. You can unblock them from My Account → Blocked.

What is escrow? Request Escrow is optional. The button is marked Optional, and you can finish a deal without it. It asks mr.bid to provide manual escrow on that deal. It includes a mr.bid service fee of the item price (default 1.5%, set by staff on Admin → Settings or the escrow desk), paid to mr.bid — not taken from a wallet, and not the seller item payment. Staff review the conversation and stay involved until the buyer has received and inspected the item. When mr.bid is given the green light, the seller is paid by the method you already agreed. Payment secured stays locked until a licensed provider is connected.

How do I show a seller contact number? On a listing, Show contact number works if the seller allows it and you are signed in. mr.bid logs that reveal. Use messages when you can so there is a record. The number is the seller's, not a mr.bid phone.

Can I WhatsApp the seller? If the seller turns on WhatsApp on the listing, a WhatsApp link appears. Keep important deal talk on mr.bid messages so there is a record. WhatsApp is the seller's number, not a mr.bid phone.

What is the difference between a help ticket and a safety report? Contact support creates a ticket for staff under Support. The Contact page is the Account walkthrough plus that form. Report listing or Report seller goes to Safety. Those are different queues with different permissions.

Can I cancel a completed deal? No. Once a deal is completed or cancelled, Decline deal will not put stock back. You can still request a return within 14 days of receiving the item — that is not a dispute. Open a dispute while the deal is still open if something else went wrong.

Is /safety different from Help → Safety questions? Yes. /safety is the public Safety tips walkthrough. Help → Safety questions is /help/safety — answers for that guide, with a link to the walkthrough — not a second copy of the five steps. The footer says Safety tips and goes to /safety. The listing sidebar heading is Safety tips; its link is Read the walkthrough. Privacy, Seller fees, Contact, Terms, Community guidelines, Report a listing, and Dispute resolution keep their own copy and link to the matching guide. They do not dump every Help question on those pages.

Is Community guidelines different from Safety tips? Yes. /guidelines is the prohibited-items list. The five-step walkthrough lives on /safety. Help → Safety questions is /help/safety.

What do the Terms of use say? Terms of use keep their own published version. mr.bid is a venue. The contract for each sale is between buyer and seller. We do not guarantee items, shipping, or payment. Do not place a bid unless you intend to complete the purchase if you win. Creating an account records that you accepted the current Terms and Privacy.

Where do I report a listing? Footer Report a listing opens /report, how to report from the listing page. Open the listing and use Report on that page — it is not Community guidelines and not the five Safety steps. Search first if you do not have the listing open. A copyright or intellectual-property notice is a different form on the Copyright notice page.

Where is dispute resolution? Footer Dispute resolution opens /disputes, how to open a dispute from the deal. My transactions is the list of deals, not a second policy page. A return is a different case from the deal after you received the item. The five-step walkthrough is Safety tips on /safety.
